MX for Children runs a variety of events to benefit local Children's hospitals and to support hydrocephalus research -- the #1 cause of brain surgery in children.  We are a group of volunteers who work under the not for profit status of the benefiting hospital.  Our goal is to establish a nation wide program of motocross/supercross related events that benefit children's hospitals in each locale.

National Events

The Inside Line Experience  

The Inside Line Experience is a package of exclusive opportunities -- hang out with top Supercross racers in a small group setting; attend the supercross press conference; watch a private practice; tour a factory rig; walk the track; and get great seats!  Monster Energy ® Supercross and participating race teams generous donate tickets, access passes, and time to make this unique experience possible. This year we add Houston to our already established stops in Toronto and Seattle.

The Suzuki Raffle

Since 2006, American Suzuki Motorsports Corporation has generously donated a new Suzuki RM-Z 250 to lead a raffle drawing at Seattle Supercross benefiting Seattle Children's Hospital.  The winning ticket is drawn by the likes of Ricky Carmichael or Roger Decoster on stage during the main event at Seattle Supercross.  When the raffle is on, tickets are available online at www.mxforchildren.org.  

Photo Auction  

Since 2007, our pro MX photographer and volunteer -- Rex Backman -- organizes a photo auction on eBay tha tis supported by many of the best photographers in the business. 

Local Northwest Events

MX for Children Ride Days  

The annual MX for Children Ride Day provides a family centered opportunity for the motocross community -- recreational, amateur, professional and industry -- to have fun and benefit a great cause in the Northwest. Children's Hospital and Regional Medical Center provides quality medical care to families in need regardless of their ability to pay. Proceeds also go to support hydrocephalus research at Children's Hospital. Hydrocephalus is a brain condition that strikes children and adults alike but is particularly debilitating to children requiring multiple brain surgeries to survive and develop. MX Ride events are held each summer at a motocross track in Washington state and provides an open "practice" day to participants whose gate fees and pledges raised benefit Seattle Children's Hospital. Fan Appreciation Night and Silent Auction at Renton Motorcycles  

Renton Motorcycles organizes top riders from a number of Supercross teams to appear for an autograph session at RMC the Friday night before Supercross.  MX for Children puts on a Supercross silent auction with great unique, autographed gear from many top riders in Supercross.  

The RMC Raffle  

Renton Motorcycles RMC generously donated a 250 class MX bike for our first local raffle in 2008. 

 

MX for Children Ride EAST

We ran our first ride in Eastern Washington at the awesome Extreme Motorsports Park because of their generous donation of the track.  Forty riders came out to enjoy a beautiful day, pristine fall conditions, and raise money for Seattle Children's Hospital.  We will post pictures of the event soon and appreciate everyone's support.  Cody Bristlin one the Highest Flyer award by raising $500 in pledges for the hospital.  He won a gift certificate to D&B Powersports and two passes to the Inside Line Experience at Seattle Supercross.  Congratulations Cody!  Thanks to Extreme Motorsports and FAR Designs for their in-kind donations that made the event possible.

Why did you decide to participate in the Inside Line Experience?

When Dakota heard about a little boy who was 2 that had, had so many Brain operations Dakota said immediately "I want to help him he is a fellow MXer's son." We explained to him all that was involved in the task of this fundraising. We were a bit nervous about him being 6 and having the will and attention span to complete it. But every night after school he would run home off the bus, do his homework and he would start knocking on doors. It was actually really exciting to see how many people were willing to help. He had a great sales pitch and people would say to him, "how do I say no to that?" Dakota has seen a lot at Sick Kids with the amount of time we spend there for him and his sister. He was happy to help. We told him on November 23rd that he had won the Inside Line Experience and what it was all about and he was beyond excited and he didn't quite know what to say.

Are you kidding me? It was OUTSTANDING! We got to meet those amazing young men. Talk about thrilling. Exciting and something that anyone who likes Dirt bikes would die to do. Dakota walked in the door and said "Mommy that's Chad Reed" He could not believe he was in the same room as him.

Then Chad said you have a Travis hat on is he your favorite? Dakota said yes I ride #199 on my bike, Chad said he knew Travis Pastrana and that they "hang together" and Dakota was star struck. Chad gave him cornering tips and talked to Dakota about things. It was really quite an experience to have those Riders take the time out of their lives to do this for the kids. We are proud of all of them. James, Tim and Chad were all very kind in signing things and with making the kids feel like number 1 for the day. It was jam packed with amazing opportunities. From pictures, autographs, press conference, private practice, pit passes. There is nothing more amazing. Nothing better as a parent to tell your child all these really wicked things are going to happen and to him. It was like Christmas. This was thee single best experience we have had with our son. We saw this little boy full of compassion and excitement. Not for himself but to help out and see how much he could do. He had this side of him we didn't even know existed. He was persistent, and loving and he really has a kind heart. I am proud to say he is my Son. His door to door speech made me realize that he really learned the meaning of compassion on this journey. We can not thank you enough for that.

In addition to the “rewards” of the Inside Line itself, can you tell me what it meant to you as a parent to have your son participate in this event?

It meant so much to us to hear our son ask for our permission to help out this strangers son. We were floored that he would think on those levels. He is 6. The world usually revolves around them. At the time he said he wanted to, he had no idea of the end result of his efforts. Proud does not explain the emotions his father and I have. We are so grateful to Paul and Penny for giving us the opportunity to get to know our son and be able to teach him such a valuable lesson about compassion and giving back. You know we learned things about " Our son" that we as parents did not even know. We learned through his eyes how a child can help change things. That children do think of others before themselves, they are not afraid of hard work and they want to help out. Dakota had the opportunity to learn compassion for another human being. He wanted to buy jerseys with his own money once he saw how much money James Stewarts Jersey made at auction for Sick Kids. We didn't think that children thought about those things but we were really proud that our son did. He wanted those jerseys autographed to donate them back to our club Lake Shore Dirt Riders to have them auctioned off at our annual Sick Kids charity event so they could have more money. He did not ask for himself to have them and his friends and who ever else he could impress. He asked to help out Sick Kids and Paul's son. Pride is all we feel for our son.

We want to thank you Paul more than we can say for giving us the opportunity as parents to teach him such a valuable lesson in life.

Why did you decide to participate in the MX Ride for Children?

When I first decided to ride in the MX Ride for Children I thought it would be kinda fun to get another day of riding in, but when I read about what the pledges were for I thought  hey, this is a really cool thing that I could do for kids.  

What did you think about the event?

I really liked the event.  We had a fun day at Burnt Ridge, Rex took some pictures and everyone had a really great time. It was different than an ordinary practice day or race day because we were riding for a purpose, to help the kids and that felt good.

Did you enjoy the Inside Line Experience?

The Inside Line Experience that I won for being the top fund raiser was awesome!!  I got to meet several different riders including Ryan Villopoto and on race day I got to tour the team Suzuki's truck and meet Roger Decoster, that was a huge highlight of mine and my Dads day!

Can you tell me what it meant to you as a parent to have your son participate in these events?

As a parent I was very proud of Hayden.  He did his research and was very knowledgeable when he was asking for pledges.  Hayden wasn't trying to get the most pledges to win something, he was doing it because he really cared about helping the kids.  He said that he was,raising money doing something that he loved to do, with the hope that some day the kids he helped could do something that they loved to do.
